F.E.A.R. = False Evidence Appearing Real
“Fear” is a result of paranoia, anxiety, inner sadness, jealousy, hatred, and/ or anger. However, “F.E.A.R.” is an acronym that stand for “False Evidence Appearing Real.” F.E.A.R. is what a small group of individuals who are fearful (or fear-filled) and suffer with insecurity have made a conscience choice to maliciously engage in personal attacks and attempts to teardown exceptional individual(s) in our community using F.E.A.R. These individuals have chosen to convey their fabricated, false, and misleading information; their perceptions that are not based in truth or reality; and just plain old outright lies in an effort to recruit other members of our “community” toward their negative energy and misery. These toxic individuals represent 5% or less of our community and have been spewing their paranoia, F.E.A.R., and lies for more than 10 years. This is a reason why Liberty Commons is a fragmented “community.”
“Complaining makes you more miserable and just makes problems worse. None of the problems I’ve faced ever went away by complaining. When you complain, you attract other people who complain. That’s a dead-end street.
But it works the other way, too. When you decide to be happy, adventurous, and open-minded, you will find other people who have made the same decision.”
— Lynn Lingenfelter, excerpt from the book “Body for Life”
However, the majority of individuals (95% or more) that exist at Liberty Commons are positive individuals who can easily drown out these negative minded individual’s voices by continuing to build a cohesive and diverse community in spite of the negative minority of individuals by keeping some simple thoughts in mind:
- If you don’t see it with your eyes, don’t invent it with your mouth.
- Don’t let your ears witness what your eyes didn’t see.
- Don’t let your mouth speak what your heart doesn’t feel.
- Always assume positive intent. If you don’t understand something, ask clarifying questions to the actual individual who is being talked about and listen to understand not to just respond.
- “Lies only become true if person choose to believe.” — Mr. Miyagi, Karate Kid, Part 2
- “Insecurity is an ugly thing. It makes you hate people you don’t even know.” — Unknown
Let’s stand united to build a stronger inclusive community. Standing together as one means telling those F.E.A.R. filled individuals that we don’t want to hear their negativity. Simply ask them what they have actually done (an action) to make an effort to make this community better, stronger, and more inclusive, rather than just complain amongst themselves and to anyone who will listen to them. What you will learn if you ask probing questions is that they have done absolutely nothing positive, nor taken any action to make things better for the community as a whole. Whining is not an action. It’s self destructive and defeating. Karma balances things out.
Keep in mind that every segment of society has these toxic individuals, whether it is in a work, organizational, or social setting, so this is not unique to Liberty Commons. However, we can continue to make strides to rid our community of these toxic individuals by simply ignoring them, by participating in meetings, sharing our thoughts on matters that affect all of us, etc. Individuals need to get involved to change the negativity into positive energy and efforts. Think about it and take action, if you are motivated to.
